Design for manufacturing – Standardization for photonic integrated circuits

The design, testing and fabrication of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) has grown tremendously over the last few decades. Many different platforms have arisen as well as many initiatives to bring PICs to the market. Now the various technology platforms have become mature over the last decade, there is a need for standardization and design for manufacturing, assembly and packaging. Good and bad examples from the field will be presented.
Ronald Dekker Ph.D. [M] (Group Leader / Technical Liaison Officer) received his BSc at the ‘Technische Hogeschool Rijswijk’ (Netherlands) in the field of Applied Physics, with specialization in Photonics. After several years work in the microsystems technology industry, he received his Ph.D. degree in 2007. In addition, he finished an introduction program at the TSM Business School. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of micro fabrication, integrated optics and thin film technology.
After his Ph.D., he joined LioniX B.V., as a project leader and led several successful commercial projects as well as national and international subsidy projects in the field of integrated optics and microfluidics, for both telecom and biomedical applications. A few years later he was closely involved in the founding of XiO Photonics B.V., where he held the position of CTO since 2008.
Currently he is member of the Management Team, holds the position of Technical Liaison Officer at LioniX International and he leads the module& assembly department at LioniX International.
